Pacquiao-Margarito Showdown

On November 13, the world’s number 1 fighter pound for pound, Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao, will lock horns with former world champion Antonio Margarito. Once again, the pride of the Philippines will face a formidable foe from Mexico. Pacquiao, also known as the Mexicutioner, has battled and defeated Mexican legends such as Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales and Juan Manuel Marquez. He also retired former multiple weight division champion, Oscar De La Hoya, into submission. De La Hoya is of Mexican descent as well.
Margrarito was chosen as a substitute opponent for Pacquiao when Floyd Mayweather Jr. refused to fight the Filipino champion. Mayweather did not want to risk losing his perfect 41-0 record to Pacquiao. This move by the American only cemented the idea that he’s scared of Manny Pacquiao.
When all negotiations with Mayweather failed, Top Rank Chief Bob Arum, chose Margarito to be the next Pacquiao opponent. This choice makes sense business-wise because Arum manages the careers of both fighters and they both have a strong following. But this fight has its share of controversies as well. Margarito has just finished a year of suspension due to the illegal hand wraps he was supposed to use in his fight against Shane Mosley. Because of this, he was suspended for a year and lost a bid to regain his license in the state of Nevada and California. Fortunately for him, Texas issued him a license that’s why he’s now eligible to fight the Pacman in Dallas, Texas.
Initially, a lot of boxing aficionados do not agree with Arum’s decision. They say that a cheater like Margarito does not deserve to have a huge payday by going up against the world’s top fighter. But the decision of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to grant Margarito a boxing license sticks and it is now legal for the two men to fight within the state of Texas.
Despite the controversies surrounding the fight, one thing is certain. This fight is going to be explosive from beginning to end. Both fighters are known for their aggressive and toe to toe style and both will go for the knockout. People will certainly get their money’s worth because of the all out action these two warriors bring. The Pacman is arguably the world’s most entertaining fighter that’s why by pairing him with Margarito, who’s also very exciting boxer in his own right, a fireworks-filled battle is already assured.
Pacquiao will bring his blinding speed, knockout power and awkward style against Margarito who has the edge in size, height, reach and strength. Both boxers have great stamina and known to be volume punchers. So who will prevail? Will Margarito’s size advantage be enough to offset the out of this world speed of Pacquiao? Or will the Pacman’s ring generalship be too much for the Mexican fighter? These questions can only be answered by these two boxing champs when they clash in the ring on the 13th of November.
The Dallas Cowboys Are Not Dead
The Vultures are circling the Dallas Cowboys now. Every sporting outlet like ESPN, the NFL network, sports writers, sports talk radio all over the United States have all but buried the Cowboys. But it is too soon to bury the Cowboys just yet. It is true the Cowboys followed up a very impressive win against the then one lost Houston Texans, with a loss against the Tennessee Titans. The Cowboys must have thought they won the Super Bowl when they beat the Texans because they thought they were going to beat the Titans by showing up, just like they did in their other two losses. This team has Super Bowl champ arrogance without the hardware. It’s the same problems that have hurt them in their previous loses. Penalties, costly turnovers, a missed a close field goal and lack of big plays on defense. This time the Cowboys also allowed six sacks.
The Cowboys are long on talent but have shown so far this year to be short on brains. I’m not calling them stupid I’m just saying they don’t pay attention to the small details that can be the difference between winning and losing. Of the twelve penalties the most costly was the excessive celebration after tying the score late in the fourth quarter. That penalty resulted in the Cowboys to kickoff from their own fifteen instead of their own thirty and allowed the Titans to operate on a short field after a long kickoff return and personal foul penalty. That should not happen in that situation. A couple of costly turnovers, an interception that bounced off a tight ends hands at the goal line, and an interception that was tipped at the line of scrimmage, that set up another short touchdown by the Titans. Those two turnovers cost them fourteen points. The tight end must catch the ball when it hits his hands and the offensive tackle must chop down the defensive end on three step drops by the quarterback. The lack of big plays on defense. I counted two dropped interceptions. Their defense must lead the NFL in dropped interceptions. The Cowboy defense must play volleyball in practice instead of catching the football. The Cowboys won every major offensive category yards and time of possession except the bottom line, which is the score board. You don’t amass over five hundred yards in total yards by luck. So there is hope.
The Cowboys are in exactly the same position they were last year at this time. They were 2-2 and the Giants were a very dominant 4-0 and we know that ended. The Cowboys got hot and the Giants crashed and burned. The season is barely one quarter over. The Cowboys are only 1 ½ games behind the NFC East leaders New York Giants, Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles who are all 3-2. None of those teams scare anybody. There is no dominant team in the division or for that matter the entire NFC. The Cowboys still have the best overall talent in the division and the conference for that matter. Of the 4-1 teams in conference team there is the Atlanta Falcons, who have good young quarterback in Matt Ryan, solid players on both sides of the ball, but the Falcons were more than a little lucky to win the San Francisco game on a fumble by the 49ers after an interception. The Falcons can easily be 3-2. The Chicago Bears have to be the luckiest 4-1 team in NFL history. How did they beat Carolina when their quarterback had a quarterback rating of six? Now that’s unbelievable. That brings back memories of the Rex Grossman days. The Bears also major issues on their offensive line. The conference is wide open.
It’s time for the Cowboys to put on their hard hats and get to work. The problems that are causing the Cowboys to lose can be corrected. If they can reduce their penalties by thirty to forty percent, don’t turn the ball over on offense and hang on the ball on defense, they can win ten games and win the division. Don’t bury the Cowboys just yet there is a whole lot of season left.
